Hearing Loss

Hearing loss is something that about 95% of the adult population will experience at some point in their lives. Age-related hearing loss, referred to medically as sensorineural hearing loss, occurs when there is nerve damage in the ear. This type of hearing tends to come on gradually and is not typically handled until a patient's hearing loss is severe.

Hearing Evaluations

At Clear Choice Hearing Center, we'll help you to learn how a hearing test works and why it is important to get tested sooner rather than later. Hearing tests can be performed at The Woodlands hearing center. You'll be ushered into a sound-proof room that will allow you to concentrate on the hearing test. You'll be given a set of headphones or earplugs to wear. These will be connected to a sound device that will send sound signals to both of your ears.

The sound signals will be done in different pitches and volumes. The sound will be given to each different ear at different times. When you hear a sound, the examiner will either have you raise your hand, match the side with the side you hear, or push a button. The examiner will then review your answers to determine if there are gaps in your hearing and what pitch and ears they are in.

Hearing Aids Are The Solution

To treat hearing loss, hearing aids are prescribed by treating physicians. Patients will first undergo a hearing test to determine their level of hearing loss. Additionally, an evaluation of their lifestyle and everyday communication situations will be taken into account. Finally, a hearing aid will be manufactured to meet the hearing needs of the patient.

The technology hearing aids can now offer is continually getting better to maximize your hearing ability. At its basic form, a hearing aid simply receives sound via a microphone. This sound is converted into electrical signals that are put through an amplifier. The amplifier turns up the signals' power and emits them through a speaker for the wearer to hear.

If you noticed that you have trouble hearing, be sure to book an appointment with Clear Choice Hearing Center today. Our specialists can evaluate your hearing and lifestyle needs. Once they determine the level of hearing loss you have, they can help you select the best hearing aids to fit your individual needs.

Signia Hearing Aids

Behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids sit in a hard plastic case behind your ear. A plastic ear mold fits inside the outer ear and directs sound to the ear.

These allow low-frequency sounds to enter the ear naturally and high-frequency sounds to be amplified through the hearing aid.

In-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids fit completely inside your outer ear. They have a hard plastic case that holds the electronics.
